Once a franchise is made you can't make changes to the roster. Did you start the franchise before you made the player? Just run straight to where the defense isn’t. Create a player still exists for you to add a made up player to a roster just for kicks and if you want, you can play as that player in Franchise, but that’s as good as it gets in Madden 18. You can ignore your route (the line the game tells you to run in). The created player file would need to be loaded into the free agent roster prior to starting a Franchise.

For whatever reason, I cannot add a created player to a downloaded roster on Xbox One. Can you use created players/custom rosters in the original or as renamed "Classic" Franchise Mode? If a message helped you, please give it XP!

The UI makes it seem like the player is being added and the roster is showing as being saved but when I load the roster my created player is never there. Also I haven't played 18 yet so this info may be outdated, sorry if it is.

Click the XP button at the bottom of the post. When you create a franchise it should ask what roster to use.

I ask because this is a deal breaker for me, I primarily play Franchise mode on this game since it was introduced and don't even want the game if I can't put created players in now. Wide receiver is the easiest position to play in Madden NFL 18. I know another player with Xbox One who can do the exact same thing without any problem.

You'll have to make a new one. A pastime for Madden fans which continues in Madden 19 is editing and creating players to fit either your likeness or someone else’s to use in-game.
