Tends to receive distant groundswells and the ideal swell direction is from the northeast. The primary swell is predicted to be 4ft and 6s period with a secondary swell of 0ft and 10s. definatly worth checking out if you are in whangapoa and the banks arn't looking good there - it is usually about a third bigger at new chums as well.

One of NZ's treasures.

The wind is predicted to be offshore as the swell arrives.

This is a lovely beach, beautiful golden sand, great safe swimming.

Detailed free 7-day surf report for New Chums Beach . Great walk over the rocks to New Chums from the end of the road at Whangapoua. It is about 30min walk from nearest carpark and part of it is over lots of small rocks. Offshore winds blow from the west. Including local swell, period, wind and pressure charts. The path is quite unlevel so not the easiest of walks (but, hey, I’m almost 70 and managed it! Take care if swimming. ).
